Scallop diver off Tasmania gets killed

The fatal incicent occurred between Lachlan Island and Maria Island near the coastal town of Triabunna. Damien Johnson, in his mid 40s, and his daughter were diving from a small aluminium dinghy about 08h00 when it happened. The daughter says that a very large shark attacked her dad who did not come to the surface anymore.

Comment (Erich Ritter): Scallops are tightly attached to rocks and need to be pried loose with a knife, creating a very particular noise. Since white sharks are known to feed on scallops, chances are that the very activity of the two brought the animal close.
