The sun just started to go down at Étang-Salé when a 24 year old swimmer got bitten by a shark (species unknown) about 20m off of the beach. The shark likely hit with great force, severing the leg in the process. The government reacted and first banned any surfing outside of the lagoons (despite that it was not a surfing incident). Furthermore it was also instituted that 45 tiger sharks and 45 bull sharks shall be culled. Reunion hat 12 incidents in the last 2 years with 1 fatality.
