Another fatal incident occurred in Reunion. A small group of fishermen were trying to catch a fish called "bichiques" at the mouth of the East River. Floris Huet just entered the water and stood about 5m from the shore when a shark approached and tore his left leg off. Although his friends immediately tried to rescue him, he died of cardiac arrest. Some of the areas around Reunion are banned for any water activitives since 2013. In order to catch the shark, drum lines are now set around the river mouth. Although it is a sad case, the government is still not willing to tackle the problem the proper way but remains reactive. The Shark Risk Reduction Center (CRA) has announced to install underwater cameras and post-attack shark culling. Killing the sharks around Reunion is not the answer.
