Stéphane Berhamel, a 36-old honeymooner, was killed by a shark, off the popular beach of Brisants de Saint-Gilles. The shark bit the surfer on the arm and on the thigh. His wife was present at the beach when the incident happened. A nearby swimmer saw the blood and shouted for help. Lifeguards immediately jumped in the water to rescue Stéphane. When they reached him he already lost a lot of blood, and got in cardiac and respiratory arrest.
