John Campion was surfing when he got dragged under by a shark. Despite Campion’s severe wounds on the torson and his arm, he was able to paddle back to shore. Although it was assumed to be a 4m bronze whaler (Carcharhinus brachyurus), the damage on the surfboard does not confirm such a large animal. That a bronze whaler could have been involved is possible but if so, the bite radius suggests an animal of less than 3m.
